Meet the Team
Electric December would not be possible without the creativity and energy of students from Fairfield and Redland Green Schools in Bristol. The students deliver Electric December as part of their BTEC Media Course in Year 10. As part of the programme the students worked with acclaimed photographer Kirsty Mackay to shoot photographs for this website, including these portraits.
Meet the students and hear what they have got out of working on the project.

I am Aaron. I go to Redland Green School. I am 15 years old.
I chose Media Studies because I wanted to know how to use a computer, to record and edit and make films. I’ve helped with the planning of the launch night by being assistant to the people at Watershed, recording some of the shots we took and being an actor and helping them to edit some of the footage. We also made the invites using Photoshop and photos we took on Nelson Street. Being in the films has been my best Electric December 2012 moment. -
Hi I am Blake. I am currently doing BTEC Media at Fairfield, I am 14 years old.
I chose to take Media Studies as an option because I wanted to learn more about digital design technology and moving image. Since September I have been working with the Watershed on the Electric December film festival. Our group has helped to make the Electric December promo film and we have helped to organise the launch night too. I now know how to use Photoshop as we had to make some promotion materials for the Electric December event. I found the promo film making most enjoyable as I got to act and use professional camera equipment. -
I am Adil and I am 15.
I chose to study Media Studies at Fairfield because I am interested in how computer games work. I have future plans of working as a computer game programmer. I’m also interested in animating, the movie making is a definite plus! I have been working with the Watershed to help organise and promote the electric December event. We had to work on the flyers using Photoshop skills and we had to make a movie to promote electric December. My top moment in the Electric December link project was making the promo movie with professional film maker Tim Crawley! -
Hi I am Tyler and I am 15 and I am studying a Media BTEC in Fairfield High School.
My interest in Media is related to the fact that I like to find out how to use new software on computers and I am interested in how the media works. I am also interested in the techniques people use to make videos. Since September, I have participated in this year’s Electric December launch night by being in the promo video for the event. I have contributed many ideas on the planning for the launch night, such as how we are going to lay out the rooms at the Watershed and I have also made some flyers to give out to promote the launch night and to give people information about it. My top Electric December moment has been working outside of school and with the professionals at the Watershed because it was really fun and it was different to everyday school lessons. -
My name is Reuben and I go to Fairfield High School.
My interests in media are mainly linked to photography because I find it interesting and it is what I want to do in the future. I have participated in a lot of the Electric December launch night preparation. I have helped out with the planning and organising pretty much the whole night. What I have enjoyed the most about the project is taking the pictures for the Electric December website and making the promo film for Electric December 2013.
